Six stories, each interrupted at its midpoint and resumed later, carry the reader from a nineteenth-century Pacific voyage through 1930s Belgium, a 1970s California conspiracy, a comic English present, a future corporate Korea and a post-collapse Hawaii. Each section adopts a different voice and form — journal, letters, thriller, memoir, interrogation, oral tale — and each contains the one before it as a book, a film or a relic. The tension lies in how power, exploitation and small acts of decency repeat across time. Playful, structurally daring and unexpectedly moving, it asks to be read as a single design.
