About this book
In this warm, plain-spoken book, an American Buddhist nun and teacher in the Tibetan tradition writes about meeting pain, fear and uncertainty without running from them. Its short chapters started as talks she gave. Each one takes a single teaching, such as groundlessness, loving-kindness or staying present with discomfort, and ties it to ordinary experience: anger, disappointment, loneliness and the urge to fix everything at once. She writes with humour and frankness, often drawing on her own struggles, and doesn't hand out quick comfort. Her gentle, steady argument is that times when life falls apart can open into tenderness and real presence. It reads well in small pieces and is worth coming back to.
