About this book

On the eve of an interstellar war, seven pilgrims set out for the remote world of Hyperion. There, the Time Tombs move backward through time and the Shrike, a lethal and mysterious being, is said to wait. During the journey, each traveller tells the story that brought them there. A priest, a soldier, a poet, a scholar, a detective and others each speak in their own style and genre, from gothic horror to noir to tender family tragedy. Gradually, the stories show how their fates are linked. The novel is rich, mysterious and philosophically ambitious, and its structure loosely echoes The Canterbury Tales.
